clinton st. baking co. pancakes for two

Clinton St Baking Company Pancakes, for Verily Magazine

Happy first week of spring!  Eeeee. Spring and early summer are my favorite times of year. Even though it doesn’t feel terribly spring-like yet up here, I’m still reveling in the abundance of sunlight from the longer days we’re having, the few spots of balmy weather here and there, and the promise of warmth to come.

Clinton St Baking Company Pancakes, for Verily Magazine Clinton St. Baking Co. Pancakes, for Verily Magazine

In anticipation of longer and lazier days, today I have a small piece up on Verily Magazine (yay!) on how to make Clinton Street Baking Company’s venerated pancakes, scaled down for just two. This piece was one of my favorites to shoot — pancakes, for one, are always fun to style, but especially so when you have the freedom of making someone else’s tried-and-true recipe (let alone one Neil Kleinberg’s award-winning world-famous tried-and-true recipe), and especially especially so when I get to snag a certain Bowl #2’s good-lookin’ hands for a little cameo.  There’s nothing I don’t like doing with him, and it was so much fun (for me, at least!) to incorporate the man I love into the endeavor I love. Now that I know how much fun it is to have him model for me, I don’t know if you’ll ever see my monster hands on here again. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hope everyone’s having a wonderful Monday!

Wait question. I was googling Clinton St. last night and came across several different versions of their pancakes…which is the real one?! For example, I saw Izy’s post on Buzzfeed used baking soda + buttermilk where yours uses whole milk and no baking soda. Did you follow your recipe from the book exactly?

Yep! I only tweaked the ingredient proportions. The full-scale recipe from the cookbook can be found here on Martha Stewart and here (and actually even here, on Google Books preview!). I know what Buzzfeed post you’re talking about and I’m not sure where that recipe is from (although Izy’s photos are gorgeous!) Hope that helps!

OH how exciting to be featured. Lovely design and the recipe looks perfect. I’m a pancake fanatic. I just did my first recipe for them last week (a delicious gf one). Where do you get your tea towels? I’ve been searching high and low for red and blue ones like these!

ll at Molly’s comment. I’ve deemed Chris’s hands too hairy for hand modeling, which is unfortunate because hand models are a convenient thing to have around. ๐Ÿ™‚

And congratulations on your article! Your photos are so beautifully serene, and I’m glad to know I can skip the 2.5+ hr. wait and make their famous pancakes at home!

HAHA! I’m sure after the seventeenth time that I ask B2 to hold a fork and knife for me that he’s going to wish I felt the same way about his. And thank you, Linda! It was interesting switching up the color palette a bit, so I’m glad to know it worked out okay.

I was so amazed, because, you’re right — it goes perfectly with the rest of the color scheme. I don’t think I could have picked it better myself. Well played, Mr. TRB.
